Washington man wins local triathlon

RAPID CITY - Don Winart of Spokane, Wash., was the overall winner at the Rapid City Triathlon on June 22 at Horace Mann Pool.

Winart completed the event in a time of 1:06:56. Taking first place in the women's division was Rapid City's Kara Flemming, who finished with a time of 1:16:15.

Athletes were also recognized for their achievements in individual events.

Flemming's time of 13:26 was the fastest swim on the women's side and Tyler Smoragiewicz, of Rapid City, captured first in the men's division with a time of 10:24. The fastest bike for the women was Emily Cook of Douglas, Wyoming, in 32:32 and Todd Gentzler of Upton in 28:38 for the men. Flemming ran five kilometers in 25:02 to secure first place in the women's division and Rapid City's Tony Smoragiewicz finished first on the men's side with a time of 20:30.

Ninety athletes swam 800 meters, biked 20 kilometers and finished the event by running five kilometers.
