BROOKINGS -
Rapid City West scored a 4-3 victory in the first game of a high
school baseball doubleheader against Brookings on Sunday. The
Bobcats came back and won the second game, 16-6.
The games were
moved from McKeague Field in Rapid City due to field conditions
resulting from Friday's blizzard. Jerry Vifquain picked up the win
for West and Sean Holloway was credited with the save in relief.
Reed Rice (3-for-4) led West offensively with two doubles and three
RBI. Bobby James (2-for-2, 2B, run) and Jerry Vifquain (2-for-3,
2B, run) were also key for West.
Brookings broke
open a 6-6 game in the bottom of the 6th inning to earn
a split in the second game of the doubleheader. David
Oberlitner (2-for-2 with a
run scored) and Bobby James (2-for-3) led West. David Thyren took
the loss in relief.
With the split,
West runs its record to 6-5 overall (6-4 league, 3-2
region).
West will host Rapid City Central on Thursday at 8 p.m. at McKeague Field.
