SHERIDAN, Wyo. - The Spearfish Legion baseball team swept both games of a doubleheader from Sheridan, Wyo., on Sunday, winning the opener 13-3, before following with a 12-4 win in the nightcap. The Spartans improve to 29-14 on the season with the sweep.

Post 164 won the opener in five innings as Allen Hemeyer and Jordan Johnson both had two hits in the game and combined to drive in eight runs. Johnson added a two-run home run and Hemeyer had a solo blast. Hemeyer would get the win on the mound striking out three in five innings.

The fifth inning proved to be the big difference in the game as Spearfish sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six times to end the game due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The nightcap belonged to Post 164's Jess Cooper who went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with a home run and six RBI. Wisener added two more hits, but it was a combination of walks and hit batters that helped the Spartans take control of the game.

Rick White got the win for Spearfish as he went the distance striking out six and scattering seven hits.

"He has mainly been a relief pitcher for us, but we asked him to start today and he did a real good job," Spearfish head coach Matt Kemp said. "We are starting to play better and hit the ball one through nine which has helped us put up a lot of runs."

The Spartans are back in action Tuesday when they are in Pierre for another doubleheader.
