Sturgis used a big second quarter to get past Douglas
57-40 in a nonconference girls basketball game on Thursday night at Whitehead Auditorium.
The visiting Scoopers held a 10-7 first quarter lead before outscoring the Patriots 23-6 in the second stanza to take a
33-13 lead at the intermission.
Six Scoopers scored seven or more points as Breanna Janovy scored 11 points. Rebekah Larson and Alyssa Gouldin added eight points apiece for the winners.
Casey Cole led the Pats with 12 points while Kelsey Schwartz added 11.
Sturgis (2-2 overall) will be off until Jan. 9 when they travel to play Sioux Falls Lincoln and Sioux Falls Washington.
Sioux County 46, Edgemont 36: Liz Ellicott's 25 points, including seven
3-pointers paced Sioux County of Harrison, Neb., to a 46-36 girls high school basketball win over Edgemont on Thursday night.
Katelyn Woodrum, Sarah Windsor and Karmin Zimmerman also struck from beyond the arc for the Warriors.
Lacy Stevens had 11 points and Josie Thomsen added 10 points for Edgemont.
SULLY BUTTES 51, LYMAN 25: Elizabeth Lamb drained four three-pointers and scored 16 points and Hannah Handcock added 10 for No. 1 Class B Sully Buttes as the Chargers downed Class A Lyman 51-25.
The defending champion Chargers put the clamps on Lyman as the Raiders biggest quarter was an eight-point effort in the final quarter.
Sully Buttes led 30-11 at the intermission.
Kari Schmidt scored 10 points to lead Lyman.
Sully Buttes (3-0 overall) will play Summit in Aberdeen on Saturday. Lyman will host Wall on Jan. 3 in Presho.
DUPREE 47, WAKPALA 45: Callie Henderson scored 20 points as Dupree downed Wakpala 47-45 in a girls basketball game on Thursday night in Dupree.
Jesicka Garrett added 10 points and Jazmyn Schrempp had nine for the Tigers.
Bobbie Three Legs scored 16 for Wakpala and Lexi Gayton added 11.
Dupree will play Selby Area in Mobridge on Dec. 29.
GETTYSBURG 49, HIGHMORE 47: Gettysburg held off Highmore 49-47 in a girls basketball game in Gettysburg on Thursday night.
The Pirates trailed at the first three quarter stops, but couldn't pull out the win late.
Calii Turner scored 17 points to lead the Battlers to the win.
Loagan Cowan scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Highmore.
Gettysburg improved to 3-0 overall, and will travel to Faulkton tonight while Highmore 0-2, will host Wessingington Springs on Dec. 30.
STANLEY COUNTY 48, PHILIP 43: Sam Ostarello scored 17 points to lead Stanley County past Philip 48-43 in a Thursday night game in Philip.
Both teams traded the lead in the first two quarters as Philip took a 25-23 advantage at halftime.
The Scotties then led 34-28 after the third quarter, but the Lady Buffs went on a 20-9 run over the final eight minutes to seal the win.
Sierra Hook scored 11 points and snared 13 rebounds for Philip with Kenzy Pinney adding 11 markers.
Stanley County forced the Scotties into 25 turnovers while committing only 10 themselves.
Stanley County (2-1 overall) plays in the Redfield Classic on Jan 3, and Philip (0-3) will travel to Kadoka on Monday to take on the Kougars.
PREP WRESTLING
CENTRAL SWEEPS DUALS: The Rapid City Central wrestling team swept four duals Thursday night in Naasz Gymnasium. The Cobblers opened up the night downing Custer 61-10 before handling Belle Fourche 59-12. Central would then down Spearfish 64-12 before closing out the night with a 68-10 win over Lyman.
"Everyone who wrestled for us was very intense," Central head coach Lance Pearson said. "Out lighter weights set the tone for us and we really got a good overall team effort."
The Cobblers garnered bonus points in nearly every match it won with the pin being the favorite end to a match.
The Cobblers are set to wrestle in the Sioux Falls Washington tournament this weekend.
