HOT SPRINGS - Hot Springs defeated Custer 4-3 in a boys soccer match played on Friday evening.

Coming in, Hot Springs had not won a game and Custer had not lost, in the game featuring a pair of Black Hills Conference teams.

"It was just an unbelievable match," said Hot Springs head coach David Rooks.

Jake Roddy, Custer's all everything senior striker scored two goals for the Wildcats while the Bison's Matt Landers and Kyle Maciejewski added a pair of goals each for the winners.

Custer scored to take the early lead before Landers tied the match early in the first half.

Roddy put Custer back into the lead on a header off a corner kick and then Landers added his second goal to tie the game 2-all at halftime.

"We were able to have possession in our favor, about 65-to-35 percent, but with Roddy anything can happen out there," said Rooks.

Ten minutes into the second half, Roddy got loose and drilled a 25-yarder into the upper left hand corner of the goal as Custer again forged ahead.

Sam Rooks, of Hot Springs, played the ball to Kyle Maciejewski who scored on a header to tie the game with 20 minutes left to play.

Then with 10 minutes to play in the game, Rooks again found Maciejewski, who booted the ball past the Wildcat goalie to give the Bison their first lead of the match.

"I dropped every one back on defense after we took the lead and that kept Custer from getting any more shots on goal," said Rooks.

"It was just a great game, I am glad we don't have to see any more of Jake Roddy for awhile."
