ESPN's newsmagazine E:60 will report on Northern State University's Don Meyer, a college basketball coach whose life took a tragic turn while he was on the cusp of surpassing Bob Knight for the most men's basketball wins in NCAA history.
The piece on the 64-year-old coach who has been coaching for 38 years will air on ESPN on Tuesday.
Pierre golfer inks with Wyoming
Pierre's Taylor Smalley will sign with the University of Wyoming today to play golf. Smalley is the reigning state AA golf champion.
Camel Kids fare well in Iowa
The Gillette, Wyo., Camel Kids wrestling club had a good weekend of wrestling at the 2009 USA National Folkstyle Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Five of the 17 Camel Kids wrestling club participants placed in the top eight and became national all-Americans.
Jordan Fischer led the charge for the Camel Kids by winning the national championship in the novice 100-pound class, 3-2, over Carson Oughton, of Indians Elite wrestling club. Fischer became the fifth Camel Kid to win a national title.
Trent Olson wrestling in the novice 70-pound division beat Alex Davis, of Osseo wrestling club, to capture third place. Dani Fischer also captured third place when he pinned Austin Repp, of Purler wrestling club.
Terry Noblin lost his medal match in the intermediate 103-pound class to Jimmy Lennon, of Forrest Lake wrestling club, 11-7.
Terren Swartz wrestling in the bantam 70-pound class pinned Zach Williams, of Double Trouble wrestling, to place seventh.
Majerus named RMAC's top wrestler
For the second consecutive year, Chadron State College's Josh Majerus has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Academic Wrestler of the Year.
Shaine Odell joins Majerus, a senior from Albion who has a 3.57 GPA in health and physical education, on the first team.
Both Majerus and Odell were unanimous first-team all-academic selections.
Wrestlers earn all-American honors
Several South Dakota wrestlers did well at the National High School Coaches Association wrestling finals in Virginia Beach, Va., recently. Eleven wrestlers from the state competed with seven placing and achieving all-American status for the high school division.
Rapid City Stevens' Kris Klapprodt was the sophomore division champion at 160 pounds, while Sturgis' Clint Wilson was third at 171.
Junior class competitors from Sturgis were Josh Keszler who took second at 119 pounds, Seth Lange finished third at 125 and Winner's Jayd Docken took third at 189.
Other wrestlers that competed were Sturgis' Rex Lyon and Winner's Jesse Docken.
Rush game jerseys for sale
The Rapid City Rush are giving fans the chance to own a piece of history. The inaugural season game jerseys are being auctioned off online to help benefit the Rush Foundation.
The online action kicks off Thursday with Rush goaltender Miguel Beaudry. The opening bid will begin at $200. The jersey will be available for bidding through midnight April 15. A different game worn jersey will be available for auction every Thursday throughout the offseason.
A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Rush Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to providing a grassroots foundation for a wide variety of charitable endeavors in the Black Hills and surrounding areas.

Spring games set to start April 24
The Black Hills Area Spring Games are set for April 24 and 25. The track and field events will be April 24 at Black Hills State University from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The aquatics meet will be at the Sturgis recreation center on April 25 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The Black Hills area includes athletes from Belle Fourche, Bison, Custer, Elm Springs, Faith, Hill City, Hot Springs, McIntosh, McLaughlin, Newell-Nisland, Rapid City, Spearfish, Sturgis, Wall, Wanblee and surrounding areas.
