Black Hills State served notice to the rest of the Dakota Athletic Conference that the Yellow Jackets are going to be tough to beat at home as they rolled over Mayville State 90-62 in the conference opener for both schools at the Young Center in Spearfish on Friday night.
Cain Atkinson led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 17 points.
Luke Enos dropped in 15, Clay Pottorff added 12 and Will John Johnson netted 10 in the win.
Eleven Jackets in all got into the scoring column in the contest as Black Hills improved to 7-1 overall, and 1-0 in the DAC.
Black Hills also got a nice effort from the bench as six players combined for 32 points.
The hosts scored 42 points in the first 20 minutes and bettered that with a 48-point effort in the last half.
Bo Harrison scored 14 points and Anton Coleman added 13 for the Comets now 4-5 overall, and 0-1 in the DAC.
Black Hills shot 20-of-28 from the free-throw line while the visitors managed to make only one in nine attempts.
The Jackets shot 56.1 percent from the floor as they made 32-of-57 shots from the floor.
Black Hills State will entertain Dakota State in another DAC game today at 6 p.m. Mayville State will travel to play South Dakota Mines in Rapid City in another 6 p.m. game.
