RAPID CITY - The Pierre Governors held off Rapid City Stevens Blue for a second straight day to capture the West River Open Championship Friday at Meadowbrook Golf Course.

Pierre held a three-stroke lead coming into Friday and increased that lead to seven strokes to finish with a two-day total of 641. Stevens Blue took second with 648, followed by Watertown with 655 and Aberdeen Central with 659.

Rapid City Stevens Blue senior Brogan Pappel took medalist honors after finishing the two day event with a score of 154, edging Pierre's Miles Shock by one stroke.

"I was really up for it today and I was watching the leaders who were behind me all day and knew I had a chance," Pappel said. "On the last hole, I was really trying to break 80 and got a little aggressive and ran my birdie putt about 10-feet past the hole. I just told myself I had to make the par putt and I just drained it."

Day one leader Mac Young, of Rapid City Stevens, shot an 83 on Friday to finish with a score of 156 which dropped the freshman to third place.

Aberdeen Central's Levi Drube took fourth with 157, followed by a couple of Pierre golfers, Curry Kuehl and Jacob Greenhagen, who both shot 158 to finish in fifth place.
