Lauren Schultz and Hannah Booth each scored hat tricks as the Rushmore Thunder girls varsity crushed the Pierre Capitals 11-4 in the first of a three-game weekend road trip on Friday in Pierre.
Schultz recorded two natural hat tricks, scoring three goals in both the first and third period. Booth lit the lamp in each period and earned two assists.
Shelby Edwards scored two goals and had two assists. Victoria Hopperdietzel added two assists for the Thunder (4-3-0-0).
Liz Knutson scored two goals and had two assists to lead Pierre (1-9-1-0). Megan Johnson and Mallory Gordon each added a goal.
Pierre and Rushmore will meet again tonight at 8:15 p.m.
BOYS HOCKEY
Sioux Falls Flyers 4, Rushmore Thunder 3 OT: Josh Bingham scored the game winner in overtime to complete a hat trick as the Sioux Falls Flyers topped the Rushmore Thunder 4-3 on Friday in Rapid City.
Bingham scored the first two goals of the game to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Nathan Peter found the back of the net for the Thunder halfway through the period. Andy Hass put the Flyers up 3-1 at the end of the period.
After a scoreless second period, Devin Smith and Dusty Beaird each scored for the Thunder to tie the game at 3-all.
Sioux Falls goalie Keeghan Nelson made 33 saves on 36 shots for the win. Rushmore's Patrick Novak recorded 19 saves on 23 shots in the loss.
Rushmore (2-5-0-2) and Sioux Falls (6-0-0-0) face off again tonight at 8 p.m. at the Rushmore ThunderDome.
