BASKETBALL: Class A and B All-Stars outgun Class AA tream, 100-93.
The Class A and B All-Stars defeated the Class AA All-Stars 100-93 in the inaugural Northern Hills Senior All-Star boys' basketball game held at the Spearfish high school gymnasium Sunday afternoon.
The Class AA team, coached by Black Hills State senior players A.J. Fodness and Keighton Hatten, led at halftime, 53-48. The Class A and B team, coached by BHSU senior players Randy Herman and Aaron Sutton, started the second half on a run of their own to close the gap early.
Black Hills State-bound Tanner Adler, of Lead-Deadwood, led the Class A-B team with 23 points on an array of drives to the basket and two alley-oop dunks off pinpoint passes from St. Thomas More's Jeremy Kudrna, who also tallied 18 points for the winners. South Dakota Mines recruit Blake McPherson from Hot Springs scored 17 points behind a pair of 3-pointers. St. Thomas More's Brendan Duffy also made a pair of long-distance shots in scoring 13 points, while Hill City's Clint Lewis made three 3-pointers and also scored 13.
Black Hills State football recruit Nick Olson from Spearfish, led the AA team with 17 points, making three 3-pointers. Douglas' Greg Rogers scored 16 points, while teammate Jake Rivers tallied 14 points. Spearfish's Joe Samuelson scored on drives to the rim and pull-up jumpers, totaling 11 points. Spearfish teammate Blake Besler knocked down a pair of 3s in scoring 10 points, while Greg Puccetti from Rapid City Central scored 10 points.
