Yankton captured the Mitchell boys golf invitational on Friday with a team score of 292 as Marc Gubbels and Dillon May posted scores of 70 and 72, respectively, on the Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.
The two teammates shot identical 35s on the front nine before Gubbels, the defending Class AA individual champion, picked up two strokes on the back nine to claim medalist honors.
Aberdeen Central was second in the team standings with a score of 310. Sioux Falls Roosevelt was a stroke back in third with a 311.
Sioux Falls O'Gorman placed fourth with a score of 319 with Brandon Valley rounding out the top five with a 326 total.
Rapid City Central was the top West River team with 332, which was good enough to finish sixth.
Sturgis, Huron, Rapid City Stevens and Spearfish rounded out the top 10.
Levi Drube, of Aberdeen, took third individually with a 73 with Dylan DeSchepper, of O'Gorman, fourth and another Buck, Jordan Mueller, in fifth.
The Scoopers' Kyle Kopplin fired a 75 to place seventh individually.
Rapid City Central's Eric Whites and Shawn McCarther were the top Cobblers on the day with 82s.
Clay Kopplin, of Sturgis, also had an 82 for the Scoopers with Micah Patridge, of Central, shooting an 83.
Travis Theel was the low Raider on the day with an 84.
Nik Graslie, of Spearfish, had an 85 to pace the Spartans.
The four West River squads will play in the Greater Dakota Conference Tournament on Monday and Tuesday in Sioux Falls against the Sioux Falls schools.
