League commissioner gets contract extension

The Summit League Council of Presidents voted at its summer meeting to extend the contract of Commissioner Tom Douple to 2013. Douple is entering his fifth year as league commissioner and serves on the NCAA Leadership Council and as a member on the NCAA Committee on Athletics Certification.

"The Council of Presidents voted unanimously to extend Tom's contract for another three years given the momentum our league is enjoying in addition to increased exposure and even greater success by our member institutions and student-athletes," said Southern Utah University president and council chairman Dr. Michael Benson.

Selected as the league's fifth commissioner in September 2005, Douple has been instrumental in the growth of the league. The league has added four new members, created a league-wide Webstreaming program and implemented The Summit Plan, which included the league's new name and logo along with a branding plan and institutional commitments on staffing and scholarships.
