Two claim honors at national meet

FARGO, N.D. - Several South Dakota wrestlers competed at the Cadet and Junior Nationals held in Fargo last week.

In the Junior Freestyle Nationals, South Dakota had a pair of All-Americans led by Huron's Dustin Walraven, who went 7-2 at the tournament to finish in fourth place at 135. Walraven won his first 10 matches before getting pinned in his final two to complete an impressive showing. Sturgis' Josh Keszler was the other All-American, placing eighth at 125 after winning seven matches at the tournament.

Canton's Jeremiah Peterson finished with five wins at 130, Sioux Falls' Nate Herda had five wins at 140 and Belle Fourche's Kale Merrell went 3-2 at the tournament at 152.

In the Junior Greco Nationals, Walraven had the best showing of any South Dakota wrestler going 3-2 in his five matches.

Sturgis' Nate Wilson had a 3-2 record at 140 in the Cadet Freestyle Nationals, Webster's Logan Storley recorded a 4-2 mark at 145 and Sturgis' Nate Wilson went 3-2 at 140.

Winner's 189-pounder, Jayd Docken, went 3-2 in the Cadet Greco Nationals bouncing back from a loss in his first match to win his next three.

A pair of wrestlers earned the rare triple crown winning in three different styles.
