LNI girls roundup: Standing Rock, Little Wound win

MAKOSICA BRACKET

Standing Rock, N.D., 49, Custer 44

RAPID CITY - Shauna Long and Ryan White Bull scored 15 points each to lead Standing Rock, N.D., to a hard-fought 49-44 win over Custer during Makosica play Friday.

Ashley Weston added 10 points for the winners, while Long hit two 3-point field goals.

Claire Carson was Custer's top scorer, though nine Wildcats tallied points. Carson finished with 12 points. Shawna Gibson snared 15 of Custer's 34 rebounds.

Little Wound 56, Todd County 51

RAPID CITY - Nichelle Red Owl tossed in a game-high 18 points to lead Little Wound to a tight 56-51 victory over Todd County in a Makosica consolation round game Friday.

The Mustangs didn't lead by more than three points at any of the quarter breaks before coming away with the five-point victory.

Kanisha Rooks scored 11 points for Little Wound, which had a good night at the free throw line, making 12-of-16 charity tosses.

Shelby Hunger scored 12 points and Auriah Prue added 10 for Todd County, which went 7-for-18 from the free throw line.

Cassie Prue scored all nine of her points on 3-point field goals. Auriah Prue hit two 3-pointers. The Falcons went 8-of-19 from 3-point territory.

PAHA SAPA BRACKET

White River 60, Takini 44

RAPID CITY - Sami Gillen and Shelby Horsley scored 15 points each during White River's 60-44 defeat of Takini on Friday in Paha Sapa play.

Horsley hit three 3-pointers during Friday's game, while Gillen went 7 of 11 from the floor and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.

Caitlin Whiting also scored in double figures for the Tigers. Whiting netted 12 points.

Carmen Iron Hawk scored 13 points to lead Takini. The Skyhawks leading rebounder was Summer Afraid Of Hawk with a game-high eight boards.

Crow Creek 41, Hill City 28

RAPID CITY - Sasha Ross scored a game-high 14 points as Crow Creek held off Hill City in the girls Paha Sapa bracket game.

The Rangers committed 15 turnovers while Crow Creek had 11. Hill City shot 40 percent from the field as opposed to 30 percent for the Chieftains.

Stephanie Burleson and Alise Kelting paced Hill City with eight points apiece. Burleson also led the team with nine boards.

Crow Creek advances to the Paha Sapa championship against White River.

Lower Brule 51, Heart of the Earth 28

RAPID CITY - Lower Brule's Kassandra Estes and Virginia Touche combined to outscore the entire Heart of the Earth team in a 51-28 victory Friday in a consolation semifinal of the Lakota Nation Invitational girls basketball tournament.

Estes finished with a double-double for Lower Brule, scoring a game-high 19 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. Touche added 11 points and 12 steals for the Lady Sioux.

Cecilia Harrison led Heart of the Earth in scoring with 9 points.

Lower Brule held a 53-39 advantage on the boards, hauling down 28 rebounds on the offensive end.

Flandreau 65, Crazy Horse 41

RAPID CITY-Three players scored in double figures as Flandreau Indian toppled Crazy Horse 65-41 in a girls basketball consolation semifinal game Friday at the LNI Basketball Tournament.

Renae Ford scored 20 points to lead the Lady Indians. Faline Headley followed with 15 points and Maria Medicine Crow added 11 points for Flandreau Indian School.

Kassy Randall led the Lady Chiefs with 17 points and Hannah Red Willow chipped in 16 points.

Headley also hauled down 21 rebounds as the Lady Indians held a 57-27 advantage on the boards.
