BELLE FOURCHE - On an absolutely perfect day for golf at Belle Fourche Country Club, Rapid City Stevens defeated Belle Fourche in a dual.
The Raiders carded a team score of 182, despite the Broncs' Tyler Burr's dual-best score of 38 strokes. Stevens' top golfer, Josh Newman, was six strokes back, followed by Blake Beebe and Austin Joachim with 45 strokes.
Belle Fourche coach Clark Gusso was proud of his team's efforts despite falling short. He said that the performance on their home course produced the best nine-hole scores so far this fall.
"This has been a big time rebuilding year for us," Gusso said. "We were region champs last year, and Tyler Burr is one of the best players in the state."
Both teams will play in the Spearfish Invite today at Spearfish Canyon Country Club. However, Gusso said he expects to see a different Stevens lineup.
"(Stevens coach) Phil Hunt has lots of different looks with his team," Gusso said "He'll have six different kids tomorrow."
