The snowstorm that produced blizzard conditions in Rapid City Friday has forced several area schools to skip today's Howard Wood Relays in Sioux Falls.
Neither Rapid City Stevens nor Sturgis will send any athletes while Rapid City Central will be sending only athletes that will compete in the late afternoon. That includes hurdlers, sprinters, throwers and some relays. Those not going are distance runners, jumpers and vaulters.
"Some of the events will be over before we get there," Central head coach Dave Dolan said.
Spearfish will be represented by Darian Thompson, the only Spartan going, who will travel to the meet with her parents. She will compete in the special 400-meter race, along with Central's record-setting Jasmyne King, who just set a new state record in the event.
