SPEARFISH - Sioux Falls Lincoln's offensive line established itself in the second half Friday night and helped the Patriots defeat Spearfish 34-6 in a Greater Dakota Conference football game at Lyle Hare Stadium.

The Patriots (6-1 overall, 4-1 GDC) used a Gannon Moore 37-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion to take a 15-0 halftime lead.

Sioux Falls took the second half kickoff and needed only six plays, all runs, to gain 72 yards. Moore carried the first five times and quarterback Ryan Hander found the end zone on a 17-yard run.

Spearfish (1-4 GDC, 2-5 overall) was forced to punt on its first possession of the second half. The Spartans got the ball at the Lincoln 41 however, as a Patriot return man fumbled the punt. Five plays later Spearfish faced a fourth and 9 from the Patriot 29. Quarterback Blake Besler lofted a pass to the end zone and a leaping Gavin Cordell made the catch. A failed conversion try kept Lincoln's lead at 22-6.

A Moore 9-yard run and Konnor Wildfeuer's 10-yard run completed Lincoln's scoring in the second half.

Lincoln out-rushed Spearfish 329 yards to 45. Moore gained 212 yards for Lincoln and Jordan Johnson had 69 yards for Spearfish. Lincoln gained 124 yards through the air to 56 for Spearfish. Brett Anderson caught three passes for 84 yards for Lincoln. Cordell caught three passes for 49 yards.

Lincoln head coach Aaron Beavers felt his offensive line played much better in the second half. He said Spearfish plays well up front and Lincoln started out slowly and timidly.

"Trying to bottle up and contain Jordan Johnson is a tough task," Beavers added.

Spearfish head coach Chuck Syverson said his team started well but Lincoln's offensive power later took over.

Spearfish travels to Sioux Falls to play Washington next week while Lincoln will host Rapid City Stevens in GDC action.
