After serving as head track and field coach at Black Hills State University for 11 seasons, head coach Scott Walkinshaw announced he is stepping down as the Yellow Jackets head coach.

"This was a tough decision," said Walkinshaw. "In the best interest of the Black Hills State University program and my family, it was the right thing to do.

"I'm not totally stepping away from the program. I'll still be part of the program as head men's and womens cross country coach and assistant track coach." Walkinshaw will coach the Jacket distance runners in track and field.

"The decision I made was to take away some of the things a track coach has to do."

Walkinshaw had coached the Yellow Jackets to 10 indoor and outdoor track and field championships. The BHSU women have won 12 consecutive combined DAC titles in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field.

"There's going to be some things I will miss and other things I won't miss. The things that are important to me are the relationships, helping kids reach their potential.

"We've been fortunate to have tremendous student-athletes in our program. We've had a ton of NAIA All-American Scholar Athletes (32)."

Walkinshaw has coached 195 All Americans in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field.
