Area Scene: Harney squad to travel to Missouri

RAPID CITY - The Harney Little League All-Star Softball team will be traveling to Joplin, Mo., for a regional softball tournament this Saturday.

The girls will be having a two-day fundraiser at the Family Thrift Centers in Rapid City on Thursday and Friday.

They will be raffling off a season family pass to the Rapid City Swim Center and a season family pass to the Rapid City Ice Center.

Sandlot softball welcomes players

RAPID CITY - The 40-plus Sandlot Softball League won't play on Sunday, since Rapid City adult softball teams will be using the Star of the West complex to play makeup games caused by the rain this spring.

But the Sandlot League will return to action Aug. 3. Games start at 5 p.m. and all are welcome to play a friendly but competitive pair of games.

An effort is also being made to form a team or teams to play in the South Dakota Senior Games in Mitchell Sept. 6 and Sept. 7. Men between the ages of 50-59 are welcome to come to the Star of the West at 5 p.m. Aug. 3, Aug. 10, Aug. 17 and Aug. 24, to practice and sign up to play in the tourney.

SDSU hosts fundraiser at a country club

SPEARFISH - The South Dakota State University West River Alumni held its 27th anniversary fundraiser at the Spearfish Country Club. The group held a golf tournament, which attracted 137 golfers to participate in the four-person scramble.

The first-place team - Travis Sheporson, Kellen Steckler, Trever Larson, and Rob Weitz - in the open division shot 13 under par.

First place in the couples division went to Milo and Lillian Hellickson and Peggy and Monte Bechtold with a score of 3 under par.
