RAPID CITY - The Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center team shot its way to victory for the second year in a row in the 2008 Club for Boys Free Throw Challenge.
The team of five made 105-of-125 free throws taking first place by a 10-point margin and winning the Health Care Division.
Landing in second place and winning the Construction Division was Oyler Construction making 95-of-125 free throws, followed by Hills Materials Company who made 85-of-125 free throws for third place.
Jess Ham of Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center and Ryan Gager of Black Hills Fox News shared the Best Individual Shooter, making a perfect 25-of-25 free throws.
Gager was also the Media Challenge Winner, while the Best Team Spirit award went to the Rapid City Journal.
Several companies sponsored Club for Boys members in the challenge.
This year's top club member shooters were Chris Belverstone in the 8-10 year old category as he made 10-of-25 free throws; Austin Crumpton in the 11-12 division made 19-of-25 shots; Isiah Circle Bear, 13-14 division made 14-of-25; and Eddie Belverstone, 15-17 division made 24-of-25.
Jim Cunningham from Whitesell Financial Group won airfare for two from Rapid City to Las Vegas, courtesy of Allegiant Air, in a drawing that was held for everyone that participated.
The Club for Boys Corporate Free Throw Challenge is held annually to raise money for The Club for Boys athletic program.
Companies and organizations are asked to put together a five person team and come down to The Club for Boys.
Each team member then shoots 25 free throws and the team with the highest total score wins.
Division winners in this year's challenge included the following teams:
- Auto Dealerships: McKie Buick, 71-of-125.
- Banks: U.S. Bank, 79-of-125.
- Community Services: Club for Boys Program Team, 77-of-125.
- Engineering: Ferber Engineering Company, 78-of-125
- Financial Planning: Whitesell Financial Group,
49-of-125.
- Insurance: State Farm, 82-of-125.
- Media: Rapid City Journal Advertising Team, 61-of-125.
- Retail/Wholesale: Club for Boys Thrift Store, 78-of-125.
- Utilities: Black Hills Power, 83-of-125.
