SIOUX FALLS - The first day of the Greater Dakota Conference Volleyball Dual Tournament in Sioux Falls belonged to the home teams.
Sioux Falls Lincoln's Kayla Fritz served 10 aces as the Patriots opened the tournament with a three-set rout of Spearfish, 25-14, 25-2, 25-16.
In Lincoln's second game, the Patriots battled past Rapid City Central 21-25, 26-24,
25-19, 20-25, 15-11.
Caitlin Templeton paced the Cobbler offense with 11 kills. Courtney Carmichael recorded 25 set assists and Carrie Zastrow made 13.
Kattie Ranta and Kenzie Johnson proved a stopping force at the net for the Cobblers. Ranta made 17 blocks and Johnson had 10.
For the Patriots, Ashley Engel finished the day with 67 set assists and Sarah Kohler tallied 28 kills.
Central's Templeton led the Cobbler hitters with nine kills as Central fell to Sioux Falls O'Gorman 25-22, 25-12,
25-21 in the Cobblers' second match of the day.
O'Gorman topped Spearfish 25-13, 27-25, 25-12 later in the day. Keri Konstant paced the Spartans with nine digs. Jenna Crosswait made five kills and Sydney Tetrault and Lisa Krogstad hit four kills apiece.
Sioux Falls Roosevent defeated Sturgis 25-15, 25-7, 25-13 and took care of Rapid City Stevens 27-29, 22-25, 25-22, 25-15, 15-8.
Sioux Falls Washington continued the tough night for area schools as it downed the Raiders 25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 25-12 before discarding Sturgis 25-20, 25-18, 25-15.
Against Roosevelt, Kelly Hermann had 15 kills and Elaine Balsley had 42 assists. Hermann was solid against Washington as well, collecting 11 kills while Nikki Gleich had 21 digs.
PHILIP PICKS UP TWO WINS: The Philip Scotties volleyball team picked up a pair of wins this past week by sweeping both Lyman and Stanley County at the Philip Triangular.
Taylor Holman was 16-of-16 serving with two aces as Philip defeated the Lyman Raiders 25-13, 25-10, 25-7 in game one. Holman also tallied 11 digs and dished up 23 assists to pace the Scotties.
Sierra Hook was tough at the net against the Raiders, registering 12 kills and two solo blocks.
In game two, Philip earned a hard-fought 25-14, 25-21, 27-25 victory over Stanley County.
Marissa Mann led the Scotties attack with two aces, 22 kills, two solo blocks and 16 digs against the Lady Buffs. Teammate Kayla O'Connell was 12-of-13 serving with two aces and 14-of-16 hitting with six kills in the win.
Stanley County finished the triangular with a 25-19, 15-25, 25-22, 16-25, 15-12 win over Lyman.
Philip (4-1 overall) hosts an invitational on Saturday with games getting underway at 9 a.m.
