RAPID CITY - St. Thomas More shot 48 percent from the field as 10 players scored in a 65-44 Black Hills Conference girls basketball win over Belle Fourche.
The Cavaliers led 16-13 after the first and gave up only six points in the second quarter to take a 34-19 halftime advantage. Belle Fourche outscored More by one point in the third, but trailed 47-33 heading into the fourth.
"The start of the game was very fast-paced-not something that we're typical of doing, St. Thomas More coach Brandon Kandolin said. "We were up, but there wasn't much defense played. That wasn't STM basketball. We've been holding a lot of teams to under 26 pts."
The inside game proved advantageous to the Cavaliers. Morgan Pearson paced the team with 11 points. Elizabeth Strong and Brittany Kjerstad scored eight points apiece.
"We corrected some mismatches inside and we got some easy shots that broke the game open," Kandolin said.
Annie Bloom was the only other Cavalier in double figures with 10 points. Caitlin Duffy added nine.
Lauren Stephens led all scorers with 19 points and was the only Bronc in double figures.
Fouls and turnovers hurt Belle Fourche. The Broncs turned the ball over 22 times and forced 16 Cavalier turnovers. Belle had 18 fouls and Erin Budmayr and Kailey Palladino fouled out.
