Area schools slated to play Friday
The blizzard that rolled through western South Dakota on Thursday morning caused the postponement of the South Dakota high school volleyball playoffs. Most of the games have been rescheduled for today.
The District 4AA playoffs between Rapid City Stevens and Douglas, scheduled to be played Thursday at 7 p.m. at Stevens' Carold Heier Gymnasium and Central's Howard Naasz Gymnasium, have been rescheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. at the same sites.
The Rapid City Central and Sturgis first-round matchup, which was also scheduled for Thursday, has been pushed back to Saturday at 3 p.m. at Central High School.
While the snowstorm caused some headaches for those involved in setting up the games, there was a small silver lining in the timing.
"At least it's not two weeks from now at the state tournament," Central activities director Darren Paulson said of the Class AA, A and B tournaments which will all be in Rapid City at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center from Nov. 20-22.
The Region 8A playoffs between St. Thomas More and Belle Fourche and Custer and Hot Springs have also been rescheduled for Friday night at 6 p.m. at the same sites. The District 14B game between Edgemont and Wall is also scheduled for Friday night at 6 p.m. in Edgemont.
The winter weather has also forced the movement of some semifinal football games as well.
Avon's Class 9A semifinal against Sully Buttes has been moved to the Dakota Dome in Vermillion. The game will be played on Saturday at 7 p.m.
