The South Dakota School of Mines football program will host the Bill Lafleur Kicking and Punting Camp on June 27 at O'Harra Stadium in Rapid City.
The camp will be from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and will feature kicking and punting drills along with a film and video session. Campers are asked to bring football shoes, a ball holder and a block or tees.
The cost of the camp is $250, and checks can be made payable to Bill Lafleur and sent to: Bill Lafleur, 10201 W Bluff Rd, Malcolm, NE 68402.
Lafleur was a University of Nebraska punter from 1994-98. In 1998, he averaged 44.94 yards per attempt, the fourth best single season average in school history. He was an Academic All-American, led the Big XII, was a four-year letterwinner and part of three national championships at Nebraska.
Lafleur went on to play six seasons in professional football, splitting time between the San Diego Chargers, the New Orleans Saints and the San Francisco 49ers. He also played for the Barcelona Dragons in NFL Europe.

Four Hardrockers named as scholar-athletes: Four South Dakota School of Mines athletes were named NAIA Scholar-Athletes last week during the NAIA National Outdoor Track Meet in St. Louis, Mo. Matt Deardoff, Scott Anderson, Jason Simmons and Ashley Stewart all earned the prestigious honor.
To be honored as a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete, an athlete must hold junior or senior academic standing and have a minimum 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
Mines gets commitment from recruit from Nebraska: The South Dakota School of Mines football team announced Garrett Peterson as its newest recruit.
Peterson is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound athlete from Stapleton, Neb., who is versatile and skilled at several different positions on defense.
"Garrett is a gem in the rough," said Hardrocker head football coach Dan Kratzer. "He comes from a good small high school program in Nebraska, and his future in football is ahead of him."
Peterson will add depth to a Hardrocker team that finished 5-5 in 2008. Mines will begin its season Aug. 29 when the Hardrockers host Montana Tech in a 6 p.m. contest at O'Harra Stadium.
Jackrabbits send nine athletes to regional competition: The South Dakota State University men's and women's track and field teams will send nine athletes to compete in 12 events at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Norman, Okla., on Friday and Saturday.
The Jackrabbits are coming off one of their most successful seasons ever and will send five male athletes in six events to the regional, while the women boast four athletes in six events.
Athletes can qualify for the regional one of two ways. They can meet a predetermined qualifying standard or place first at their respective conference meet.
Junior Ben Jasinski, from Rapid City, qualified in the high jump with a mark of 7 feet, 1/2 inch. He broke the school record and set the meet record at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays. Jasinski exceeded the qualifying standard of 6-10-3/4, tying him for sixth entering the weekend. Jasinski also topped the regional standard of 49-2-1/2 in the triple jump with a leap of 51-3, ranking him 10th.
DWU names Sedivy as head wrestling coach: Former Dakota Wesleyan University wrestler Matt Sedivy has been hired as head wrestling coach of the Tigers.
The 2006 DWU graduate most recently was assistant coach at a high school in Grand Island, Neb.
Huether leads Trojans to win: Miles Huether powered the Trojans to a 7-3 victory over the Drillers in a Black Hills Amateur Baseball league game on Tuesday at McKeague Field in Rapid City.
Huether, who handled the pitching duties, went 2-for-3 from the plate with two RBI. Josh Nolan and Joe Buehler each went 2-for-4 with an RBI. The Trojans finished with seven runs on 11 hits.
Pitcher J.J. Martin led the Drillers with two hits on three at-bats and an RBI. Four teammates each had one hit as the Drillers finished with three runs on six hits.
