Hot Springs picked up a 25-13, 25-8, 25-9 road victory over Custer in Black Hills Conference volleyball action Tuesday night.
"Hot Springs came prepared to play," said Custer head coach Renae Schneider. "We didn't go after balls and didn't move and were content watching the ball hit the floor."
Kristy Deatherage was 6-of-6 serving and 26-of-26 setting to pace the Wildcats, while teammates Melissa Flores finished with five kills and Johnah Menken was 9-of-9 receiving with three digs.
Hot Springs (13-5 overall, 6-1 BHC) hosts Newell and Custer (10-15, 3-5) travels to Lead-Deadwood on Thursday.
WOONSOCKET 3, SUNSHINE BIBLE ACADEMY 1: Woonsocket overcame an early loss and downed Sunshine Bible Academy 20-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-19 in a 281 Conference volleyball match Tuesday night in Miller.
Rachel Kosakowski had 33 digs and four aces to lead Sunshine Bible Academy. Brittany LaDue followed with 10 kills and two blocks for the Crusaders.
Sunshine Bible Academy (9-8 overall, 1-3 conference) hosts Iroquois on Thursday.
DOUGLAS 3, BELLE FOURCHE 0: The Douglas Patriots recorded a 25-13, 25-11, 25-21 Black Hills Conference road win over Belle Fourche in prep volleyball action on Tuesday.
"Coming in, we knew Douglas placed the ball well on serving and attacks," said Belle Fourche head coach Loree Schlichtemeier. "They were pretty solid in the first couple of games and did what they needed to do to win."
Christina Scheler was 18-of-19 serving with an ace and tallied nine kills and 10 digs to lead the Patriots, followed by Jordan McCausland who finished with 26 assists and nine digs.
Bailey Martin had five kills and Shea Thorson finished with 17 digs to pace Belle Fourche. Treanna Kraft led the Broncs with three blocks.
Douglas (11-7 overall, 8-0 BHC) travels to Hill City and Belle Fourche (8-9, 4-5) hosts St. Thomas More on Thursday.
NEWELL 3, HILL CITY 0: The Newell volleyball team took advantage of some Hill City mental lapses to beat the Rangers, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23, on Tuesday in Black Hills Conference volleyball action at Hill City.
"Basically, we are that close to getting over that mental hump to win out and finish matches," Hill City head coach Susan Roth said. "The first game we had some mental errors in the middle of the game. And the third game we were actually ahead early and, again, some mental lapses and they caught up. It was pretty close the rest of the way."
Hill City (4-15 overall, 0-7 BHC) got six kills and five aces from Alise Kelting in the loss. Jess McDonald had three kills and two blocks and Mariah Asheim handed out 12 assists. As a team, the Rangers were 32-of-40 serving with six aces.
"We have some younger kids really starting to step up and push our older kids," Roth said.
Hill City is back in action on Thursday, hosting Douglas. Newell (13-8, 5-4) travels to Hot Springs on Thursday. Both games are BHC contests.
DUPREE 3, McLAUGHLIN 1: Dupree earned a hard-fought 26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 25-13 win over McLaughlin in prep volleyball action Tuesday night.
Jazmyn Schrempp was 31-of-35 serving with 12 aces and had 17 assists to lead the Tiger attack. Kassidy Pesicka and Callie Henderson finished with 11 and 10 kills respectively for Dupree.
McLaughlin's Eden Tiokasen was 10-of-17 hitting with five kills to pace the Lady Midgets.
Dupree (2-13) hosts Harding County on Saturday and McLaughlin (0-13) hosts Crow Creek on Thursday.
St. Thomas 3, Lead-Deadwood 0: St. Thomas More defeated Lead-Deadwood in a Black Hills Conference volleyball match at the More gymnasium on Tuesday night.
The Cavaliers prevailed by scores of 25-23, 25-18, 25-13.
"Lead-Deadwood came out with a lot of energy in the first match," said More head coach Brandon Kandolin. "We were lucky to pull that one out."
More then solidified its play in the final to games to record the win.
"We started passing the ball and play better defense in the second match and got some nice runs," said Kandolin.
Katy Freidel and Alexa White had seven and six kills respectively to lead the Cavs offensively while Erin Duffy and White recording two solo blocks each.
St. Thomas More is now 15-4 overall, and 6-2 in the BHC while Lead-Deadwood drops to 3-16 and 2-6.
The Cavaliers will travel to Belle Fourche and Lead-Deadwood will host Custer in Thursday BHC matches.
