PRESHO - The Lyman wrestlers won five of their final six matches with Kimball-White Lake to cap a three-win sweep of a quadrangular Tuesday at the Lyman Gardens on Tuesday.
The Raiders came from behind to beat Kimball-White Lake 45-25 in the final dual of the day.
The hosts also dominated Stanley County 60-21 and short-handed Todd County 78-6.
Lyman trailed 22-21 after the first eight matches when Raider sophomore Brendan Smith faced Kiote senior Philip Soulek. Smith got a late takedown in the final 30 seconds to record a 4-2 win.
"I was hoping he would just go out and wrestle a good match," Lyman coach Chad Johnson said. "He had one of the best matches he ever had. He brought the rest of the team around with him."
Casey Reinesch got the lead back for Kimball-White Lake with a 7-5 decison over Tom Walling at 189 pounds. But Skylar Eriksen got the lead back to the Raiders for good with a 9-2 decision over Kyle Bely at 215 pounds. The final three matches were Lyman pins.
"We knew that both Stanley County and Kimball-White Lake had full teams and would be real tough," Johnson said. "The kids knew what they needed to do to win."
Lyman fields a very young team with heavyweight Michael Uthe the only junior. The rest range between seventh-graders and sophomores.
"It's their turn to shine, and they are excited about having a good year," Johnson said.
There were 11 pins recorded in the Lyman-Stanley County contest, eight of them by the Raiders. The Buffs return only five wrestlers who saw significant action a year ago.
Stanley County lost to Kimball-White Lake 52-22 but beat Todd County 78-0.
"We're still young," Stanley County coach Craig Heller said. "I was pleased by how we wrestled against Kimball-White Lake. We got beat by them, but I felt we wrestled well. Lyman was a different story. We got pinned in places where we should have. But it was our first outing and we know where we need to work on."
Todd County brought only five wrestlers.
"We have more people who are out but they weren't ready to compete," first-year head coach Ian Her Many Horses said. "Our next meet, they should be ready."
Stanley County will host Todd County and Lyman in a two-day invitational Friday and Saturday at Parkview Gym.
