FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Warriors have no trouble with Central in easy win

SIOUX FALLS - The Class 11AA 4th-ranked Sioux Falls Washington Warriors scored 18 points on special teams to help blow out Rapid City Central, 66-7, at Howard Wood Field on Friday night.

Central had five fumbled snaps in the game that resulted in either a score or turnover.

Washington (4-0 overall) was led by sophomore standout running back Matt Hermanson, who carried the ball nine times for 105 yards and scored a touchdown.

Warrior quarterback Brett Grevlos was 7-of-10 passing for 84 yards and a score.

The Cobblers (1-3) wanted to get their passing game going, but the Warriors defense was too tough and held Central quarterback Will Mechling to 9-of-18 passing for 107 yards.

The Warriors will take to the road to play at Pierre while Central will host Sioux Falls Lincoln in GDC games on Friday.

Bennett County 63, Hill City 0: Junior Austin Haynes rushed for four touchdowns as Bennett County blanked Hill City, 63-0.

Clint Sasse, who led the Warriors in rushing with 128 yards, had three touchdown runs, and an interception return.

Chase Kieffe returned a fumble and Trin In the Woods threw a touchdown pass to Logan Risse to account for Bennett County's other touchdowns.

Joao Paulo Castanheira kicked 7-of-8 extra points.

Bennett County (4-0 overall) hosts Pine Ridge and Hill City (0-3) hosts St. Francis Indian next Friday.

LYMAN 53, GREGORY 0: Shae McClanahan caught four touchdown passes from Logan Reuman as Lyman blanked Gregory, 53-0.

McClanahan finished with six catches for 107 yards, while teammate Dawson Jandreau carried the ball 27 times for 239 yards.

The Lyman Raiders defense hasn't allowed any points this season, and the game was called in the fourth quarter.

Lyman (3-0 overall) travels to White River on Friday.

HITCHCOCK-TULARE 42, SUNSHINE BIBLE ACADEMY 0: Hitchcock-Tulare remained undefeated on the season, following a 42-0 drubbing of the Sunshine Bible Academy on Friday in Highway 281 Conference football in Miller.

The Patriots (4-0 overall, 3-0 Highway 281 Conference) rolled up 371 yards of total offense, including 220 yards rushing. Connor Skaare carried eight times for 110 yards and a touchdown, while Ryan Huizenga had 84 yards on nine carries and a score. Huizenga was also 14-of-22 for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

Sunshine Bible Academy (2-2, 1-2) was held to just 163 yards of offense. Cody Weiss carried 20 times for 86 yards in the loss.

The Crusaders host Wessington Springs-Woonsocket, while Hitchcock-Tulare hosts Langford-Roslyn next Friday.

SUNDANCE, Wyo., 13, Saratoga, Wyo., 7: Sundance, Wyo., scored 13 second-quarter points then hung on in the second half for a 13-7 win over Saratoga, Wyo., in high school football in Sundance.

The Bulldogs' scored on a 1-yard run and then added a 35-yard touchdown catch from Reed Moore to Hayden Johnston.

Sundance held Saratoga, which held a 7-0 advantage, to just 148 yards of offense.

Moore was 7-of-23 for 111 yards and one touchdown and one interception. Johnston caught six passes for 82 yards.

NEWCASTLE, WYO., 25, THERMOPOLIS, WYO., 13: Matt Gregory carried 26 times for 167 yards and three touchdowns, helping Newcastle, Wyo., to a 35-13 win over Thermopolis, Wyo., in a 3A East Conference matchup.

The Dogies opened a 28-0 halftime lead and cruised to the win.

"We came out and were able to run the ball and pass," Newcastle assistant coach Allen Von Eye said. "We got a big lead and were able to get some young kids in the game."

Jeremy Beehler was 8-for-13 for 107 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Nick Pisciotti had six catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

Newcastle (1-2 overall, 1-0 3A East Conference) returns to action on Friday at Moorcroft.

White River 46, Jones County 8: R.J. Estes threw four touchdown passes, connecting with Carson Krogman for two scores, as White River defeated Jones County, 46-8 in Murdo.

Tigers senior running back Tanner Lolley also ran in a pair of touchdowns and ran for a pair of two-point conversions.

Jones County's lone touchdown came on a run by Kyle Venard. Jon Drayer connected with Tyler Buxcel for the two-point conversion.

Jones County (0-3 overall) travels to Kadoka Area and White River (2-1) hosts Lyman on next Friday.

RED CLOUD 54, ST. FRANCIS 0: Truman Rossman led Red Cloud with 108 rushing yards and four touchdowns as the Crusaders defeated St. Francis, 54-0.

Red Cloud scored 40 first-half points and added two touchdowns in the second half to cause the game to be stopped in the fourth quarter by the mercy rule.

Dominic LeBeau carried the ball eight times for 103 yards as the Crusaders tallied 257 yards on the ground.

Defensively, Bryon Bear Robe returned one interception for a touchdown and Jacey Twiss recovered two fumbles and blocked a punt for the Crusaders.

Red Cloud (2-1 overall) travels to Cheyenne-Eagle Butte and St. Francis

(0-3) will be on the road at Hill City on Friday.

Philip 30, New Underwood 18: Philip scored 16 points in the second quarter to turn back New Underwood in Philip - in a contest of two previously

3-0 teams.

Casey Cvach scored two touchdowns and tallied 232 yards rushing to help power the Scotties to the win.

New Underwood scored the game's first two touchdowns as Garet Whipple scored on runs of 40 and four yards for the Tigers.

Cvach then broke loose for a 59-yard score for Philip as the Tigers held a 12-6 first quarter lead.

Philip (4-0) will travel to play Newell and New Underwood will host Wall in Friday games.

Harding County 42, Edgemont 6: Jace Jenson rushed for 106 yards and three touchdowns as Harding County defeated Edgemont, 42-6, in a clash of Class 9B football teams in Edgemont.

Hazer Burghduff padded the Rancher advantage with a pair of touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Trent Turbiville rounded out the scoring for the winners.

Arron Mower ran goal-line to goal-line to score Edgemont's lone goal.

"We got down by 14 within the first minute," Edgemont coach Bill Hollenbeck said. "We played a lot better this week than in weeks past. We're improving, but very young and we just need game experience. Harding County was much bigger and more physical."

Edgemont (0-3 overall) travels to Dupree and Harding County (3-1) host Faith next Friday.

WALL 46, KADOKA AREA 22: The Wall Eagles overcame a slow start and defeated Kadoka Area 46-22 in a high school football game on Friday.

The Eagles trailed 14-8 at the end of the first quarter, but scored 32 unanswered points in the third and fourth quarters to put the game out of reach.

Kelly Dalton rushed for three touchdowns and Darick Eisenbraun added two scores for a Wall team that carried the ball 53 times for 348 yards.

Kadoka's Chris Byrd threw two touchdowns passes to pace the Kougars.

Wall (2-1 overall) travels to New Underwood and Kadoka Area (0-4 overall) hosts Jones County on Friday.

Dupree 14, Lemmon-McIntosh 8: Colby Keegan rushed for a game-high 101 yards and scored a touchdown as Dupree held off Lemmon-McIntosh, 14-8, in Lemmon.

Cody Holmes put the Tigers on the scoreboard in the first.

Paden Tomac scored for the Cowboys late in the fourth and threw 12 complete passes for 104 yards.

Dupree (3-0 overall) hosts Edgemont next Friday, while Lemmon-McIntosh (0-3) travels to Timber Lake.
