There will be a Basketball Holiday Hoopla on Dec. 20 in Pierre. The event is open to all boys and girls teams in grades 5-8.

The entry fee is $75, and each team will play three games. The deadline for entry is Dec. 13.

BHSU to host

first-year tournament

Black Hills State is hosting its inaugural Yellow Jacket Youth Basketball Tournament on Jan. 3-4. The tournament is for boys and girls in grades 4-8. Each team is guaranteed at least three games in the tourney.

Entry fee is $100 per team, and all games will be played on the campus of Black Hills State University in the Donald Young Center.

Mines basketball

camp set for Dec. 13

The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology will host the Kid Rocker Basketball Camp on Dec. 13 in Rapid City.

The camp is for any boy or girl in kindergarten through sixth grade who wants to improve their basketball skills.

The cost is $25 per camper, $40 for two campers in the same family and $50 for three campers in the same family.

The cost of the camp includes a basketball session taught by the Hardrocker men's basketball team, a Kid Rocker T-shirt, a kid Rocker basketball and free admission to all regular season Hardrocker basketball home games when they wear their Rocker T-shirt. The campers will also perform a ball-handling skills show at halftime of the Dec. 13 home game against Grace College, Neb.

Berry and Krsnak pace Jacks at NCAA regional

STILLWATER, Okla. - The South Dakota State men's and women's cross country teams ran their final race of the season on Saturday at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Stillwater, Okla., as the Jackrabbit women finished 16th overall, while the men finished 18th.

Senior Caitlin Berry led the Jackrabbit women, finishing the 6,000-meter course 55th overall in a time of 22 minutes, 29.05 seconds. Freshman Michael Krsnak, of Rapid City, led the SDSU men, finishing the 10,000-meter course 45th overall in a time of 32:25.95.

Roy Hobbs title

South Dakota reigns as the AAA champions in the Roy Hobbs World Series of Baseball Masters Division at Fort Myers, Fla.

South Dakota defeated the Franklin (Mass.) Red Sox, 3-1, at the City of Palms Stadium, the Boston Red Sox Spring Training facility on Saturday.

This is the fourth consecutive year South Dakota has had an entry in the Masters Division and its first championship. South Dakota's MVP - selected by the team - was pitcher Curt Cutler, of Dell Rapids.

The offense was led by Rapid City's John Sayles with two hits on two doubles and an RBI.

Rock Valley to host

basketball tournaments

The Rock Valley, Iowa, Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Rock Valley Youth Boys and Girls Basketball Tournaments. The girls tournament will be Feb. 27 and Feb. 28 and the boys tournament is slated for March 6- 7.

The tournament is for boys and girls teams in grades 5-8. There will be a maximum of 12 teams in each age group for boys and girls.

All teams will be guaranteed two games, and teams may use players in a grade lower to complete their roster. The roster must, however, be comprised primarily of the grade in which the team is entered.

The registration deadline is Feb. 13, 2009 for girls teams and Feb. 20, 2009 for boys teams. Early registration is important to guarantee a spot in the tournament. When a division is filled, teams will be placed on a waiting list. Teams that are unable to complete their roster now should send in the application form and entry fee immediately in order to reserve your place in the tournament and send in roster information before the tournament weekend.

The registration fee is $100 per 10-player team with a $4 fee for each additional player over 10 on or before the deadline or $120 after the deadline.

Cougar Classic set

for Dec. 6-7

The 14th Annual Rushmore Honda Cougar Classic basketball tournament for boys and girls grades 4-8 will be in Rapid City on Dec. 6-7.

The entry fee is $135 per team with a three-game guarantee.

The deadline to entry is Sunday, Nov. 23.
