RAPID CITY - The Black Hills State University women's basketball team was selected as one of 10 at-large teams to the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.
The 11th-ranked Yellow Jackets finished their regular season with a 24-7 record which included a second-place finish in the Dakota Athletic Conference to Dickinson State and the conference tournament runner-up to the Blue Hawks.
This is the fifth NAIA national appearance for the Yellow Jackets and a return trip for the team after it reached the quarterfinals last season. The Yellow Jackets have an 8-5 record in the national tournament in their history.
Black Hills State's first-round opponent will not be known until the official bracket is released by 11 a.m. MST today.
Dickinson State, the conference tournament champion, and Jamestown College were the other DAC teams to make the field of 32 this year. The Jimmies were the No. 8 at-large team.
The fifth-ranked Black Hills State men are also in the national tournament in Point Lookout, Mo., as they received the automatic berth for winning the DAC tournament.
The Yellow Jackets (27-4 overall) are making their seventh appearance at the tournament and have a 6-6 record over that time.
The Yellow Jackets were the lone DAC team to qualify.
Both tournaments begin March 11.
