Sioux City, Iowa - With only one senior on its roster, Black Hills State is hoping its initial trip to the NAIA National Volleyball Tournament will turn into an annual event.
Annie Grim, a 5-foot, 5-inch senior libero from Gregory, S.D. is the lone senior on the Lady Yellow Jackets' 2008 roster.
Grim was an all-state selection in basketball during her prep years at Gregory. She was an all-conference and academic all-state honoree in volleyball.
"I went to Dakota Wesleyan University for one year and a half," said Grim, who played softball for the Lady Tigers. "I wanted to play volleyball and I didn't have that opportunity at Dakota Wesleyan," said Grim of her decision to transfer to Black Hills State.
"In my first year at Black Hills, I went to a tournament in Columbia, Mo., the site of the NAIA National Tournament last year. Another highlight of her career at BHSU was beating Jamestown College in Jamestown, N.D. for the Dakota Athletic Conference tournament championship. "Beating Jamestown College was huge," said Grim.
"We got to host (first round) of the national tournament." BHSU downed William Penn, Ia. to earn a berth in the final field of 24 at the NAIA National Volleyball Tourney this week at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Ia.
"My role on the team is to keep the other players up and staying positive."
Grim is a human services and sociology major with a minor in psychology. She will graduate in May.
