BROOKINGS - More than 500 4-H'ers took part in the 2009 South Dakota State 4-H Rodeo Finals held in Fort Pierre.
In the all-around finish, Rickie Engesser of Spearfish took grand champion honors in the junior girls division, while Taylor Engesser of Spearfish was the reserve champion. In the junior boys competition, Michael Deichert of Spearfish was the grand champion, and Tyler Gaer of Pierre was the reserve champion.
In the senior girls competition, all-around grand champion honors went to Kristi Steffes of Vale. Amy Deichert of Spearfish was the reserve champion. Senior boys all-around grand champion was Tyler Wortman of Highmore, and Tee Hale of White Owl took the all-around reserve champion honor.
Weather changes speedway schedule
Last weekend's rainy weather forced changes to the schedule of end-of-season special events at Black Hills Speedway.
A mud bog, tough truck and figure-8 racing event rained out on Saturday, Sept. 12, has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19. Also moved back one week are a demolition derby and herbie derby, now set for Saturday, Sept. 26, and an enduro, now running on Oct. 3. All three events start at 1 p.m., with gates opening at 11 a.m.
Motorcycle event kicks off Swarm Day
Black Hills State University will host the Thunder in the Hills Motorcycle gathering during the Swarm Day football game at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Thunder in the Hills participants are encouraged to ride their motorcycle to the Swarm Day tailgate festivities at 11 a.m.
All Thunder in the Hills participants will receive premium parking and free admission to the game.
