Tri/quad-athlon on June 21 slated to help Wall man

WALL - A benefit tri/quad-athlon for Wally Hoffman will be June 21 in Wall. Hoffman, who resides north of Wall, suffered complications after having heart surgery earlier this year.

That evening there will be a hog roast and a dance to the band Black Velvet at the Wall Rodeo Grounds following the last event.

Entry is limited to the first 16 teams and all entry fees will go toward helping Hoffman and his family with medical expenses.

National champion softball player has ties to Rapid City

OKLAHOMA CITY - Arizona State's victory in the Women's College World Series had a local tie to Rapid City.

Krista Donnenwirth, a freshman for the Sun Devils, drove in all three runs for her team in ASU's 3-0 victory over Texas A&M in Game 1. Donnenwirth is the daughter of Bill Donnenwirth and granddaughter of Buzz and Carrol Donnenwirth.

Bill attended Rapid City Central while Buzz and Carrol still live in Rapid City and were at the series-clinching second game where ASU wrapped up the World Series title.

"It was fantastic," said Carrol. "They didn't lose one game the whole tournament."

Krista continued her fabulous freshman season which included a freshman best RBI total among all freshman softball players with the terrific first game.

She had a pair of singles and a home run to account for the three ASU runs.
