The Rapid City Trap Club held its annual Black Hills Gold
shoot on Sept. 15 and 16.
This year's shoot was sponsored by the Mt. Rushmore Black
Hills Gold Company. Trophies were Black Hills gold belt buckles
awarded to the champions and class winners in the three
events.
The junior, veteran and ladies special categories winners were
presented with a Black Hills gold watch, bolo tie and bracelet.
As with our last shoot, all of the shooters were able to win
only one trophy for the entire shoot. The three events were named
for last years champions.
Matt Bartholow of Rapid City was the high overall champion
with a combined score of 577-of-600 targets. He shot 198-of-200
targets in the singles competition, 190-of-200 twin birds in
doubles and
189-of-200 clays in the handicap contest.
Over 70 shooters competed in the singles competition on
Saturday, and only one shooter ran all 200 of the 16-yard targets.
Jim Butler of Gillette, Wyo., was victorious and earned the singles
champion's title for his feat.
The doubles competition was divided between the two days, with
46 competitors shooting in the program. Gary Redden of Edgemont was
declared the champion after blasting 195 of 200 double birds.
The handicap event was won by Kimball Russell of Rapid City,
whose score of 192 out of 200 birds shot from the 22-yard line
bested the 58 other shooters in the contest.
The drawing for the Scholastic Clay Target Program raffle was
held during Sunday's events as well. The winner of the custom
Remington 700/30.06 rifle was Stan Allard of Rapid City.
Second prize was a Benelli Nova shotgun and was won by Matt
Brown of Custer.
Third prize was a pheasant hunt donated by Casteel Game Ranch
in Sturgis and was won by Robert Temme of Rapid City.
Fourth prize was a handmade quilt donated and stitched by Vi
Colombe and was won by Bill Reichert of Sturgis.
This was the last ATA registered shoot for the calendar year
at the Rapid City Trap Club.
The trap club would like to thank Riddle's Jewelry and the
Riddle family for their support of this shoot. The club would also
like to thank all of the shooters and families that have come to
Rapid City to shoot at the club this year.
The Rapid City Trap Club is open to the public, with practice
open Tuesday and Thursday nights during league shooting.
The club is also open Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., weather
permitting.
Next year's ATA shoots, news and league and open shooting
